Sony D-T66 sound issue

Hello mr Kaosun. In order to repair the other D-T66, I purchased an other one, with different problem. The device plays cds fine (only the usual spindle motor problem) but even at maximum volume the sound from the headphones out is very very quiet and distorted. The line out is silent. In radio mode, the sound is perfect both from line and headphones out. The unit is fully recapped and cleaned ( a lot of rust inside every T66!) Any idea what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance, please help!

Hello mr kaosun, I figured out the problem. Inside the optical pickup, There is a small metal that keeps the black gear in position and at the same time keeps the shaft(with the white gear) in position. This metal was a little out of place so when I turned the player vertically the shaft changed position, resulting the laser to move back a little and the play stoped. I put that metal in the correct position and now the T66 is completely fixed! Thanks you very much!

Recapp all SMT caps and further clean the leaking polluted areas. Every D66/Dt66 can be handled. Even if you do plenty circuit analysis, you'll find it's still problems related with caps and leaking. Be very careful of each operation.

Hello mr kaosun! The error was due to a difficult to replace 33uf SMD capacitor, near to one black connector. Now the sound is perfect! One more question: the discman plays from all directions, even flat in some cds, but it can't play when I hold it vertically in the direction that the sled must move upwards. This happens with all cds. I don't know if you understand me... Thanks a lot again for your assistance!

You'll short the "test" pads on the motherboard and test whether the laser can smoothly move from down to up in vertical position. You can test as well whether the laser can move to center position when it's in vertical position when hit play.

Hello, I tested the sled and it can move to any direction very easily. After searching on other threads on this forum I realized that the sled moves a little every 30 seconds but in my case, there is no need for 30 seconds for the focus to be lost, only one is enough. So, if sled isn't the fault, what else it can be? Thanks in advance.

If there's a sled issue, how can it read at horizontal position? All issue related with vertical reading is laser or laser setting. You can mark all 4 pots and adjust them one by one to see whether it can get any better. Nothing happens you can restore them to marked postions.
