sony D33 frequency testing problem

I have two sony D33 cd player, I have two frequency counter. I want to check D33 frequency with my counter according to D33 service manual. but the two counters just show 5.0MHz, not 4.31MHz. then I adjust the RV 505 resistence. but I found it can't get to 4.31MHz, I just gets to 4.5MHz, and the resistence gets to limited position of one side. by the way, I connect the counter ground side to M/B ground. what is wrong with what I did. who can tell me?

In daily repair, I seldom perform PLL adjustment because you don't need a precise adjustment on it but roughly place the PLL VR at its 1/3 or 2/3 position, that's it! It means as long as your PLL is roughly adjusted around 4.3Mhz, the DSP can lock the CLV speed and frame. First, you should follow all steps mentioned above; also, you need check your 16.9344Mhz crystal to confirm it works on its frequency. You can either use a digital counter or an oscilloscope to read out the frequency. My experience is my counter can read out the frequency as precise as 4.3218xxMhz. Yes you can use common ground as your counter's ground.

Confirm CXA1271's seventh foot ground before adjusting
Or disconnect eighth feet with EFM's DSP feet

unbelievably, Sony made a mistake about service manual. the item one "disconnect" should be "connect". because normally CD player ASY solder jumper is open. I had a try, it gets 4.31MHz.

The PLL check/adjustment procedure on SONY service manual is correct.
It is YOU,NOT SONY that make a mistake on it.
Normally,the ASY(EFM?) solder is short,not open.

I just downloaded the D-33 service manual from kaosuncd.com in order to check the location of the ASY solder jumper,
and I found I was wrong.
For most vintage CD players, you need to disconnect the EFMsolder jumper before checking the pll frequency.
but as for D-33, you need to connect the ASY solder jumper, put the asy pin to the ground.
That's the difference between D-33 and most PCDPs.
So, SONY did make a mistake on the description of the PLL Free Run Fresquency Check and Adjustment in D-33 service manual.
