I just managed to obtain one quite decent unit. Min issue was switch on the door which powers the laser and control reset function on door opening...
However still some issue - taking to much time to Read TOC and to start to play. But when it starts plays generally w.o any issue - nice operation than... Looks that somebody played with gain and offset - should readjust, but pots are hard to access--- any idea how to do adjustment -some special tool?
After one CD on external supply  internal black plate is quite warm - is it normal?

and at the end is there service manual for SH-CDB7 case, did somebody did DIY mod and battery replacement?

You need a precise laser re-calibration under helping of an oscilloscope. Ordinary special tools are not necessary. Hot is quite normal because the power adapter outputs high voltage needs to be reduced by LDO. The modification of a CDB7 is quite simple, you can install 10 pcs of AAA rechargeable cells, 5 for positive voltage and the other 5 for negative.
