I have an SL-XP5 and right now it does not read the cd, only rotate the cd. I still can see the red light beam come from optical pickup lens. I tried to measure the variable resitance on optical pickup part and  change it from 5.6k a little bit one by one (5.6 -> 5.3 -->5k....to 1.5k)and check slowly each change, my xp5 from didnt rotate the disc ---> can rotate the disc but still cannot read cd cd.  Can anyone help me to know the part number of the optical pickup lens please? I think i will buy new optical pickup lens and try to replace it to see if it can run. Thanks

Xp5's common issue is the lens fails to focus up/down due to focus coil stuck. Pls remove the oxidize trash generated by the magnet and paint the magnet again instead of replacing the laser.

Hello Mr. Kaosun!

My SL-XP5 also was unable to read CDs. I followed your advice regarding the oxidized magnets. The paint of the magnets has come loose and jammed the focus coil and lens, preventing it from moving. I managed to removed two thin paint "flakes" from between the laser and the magnets (photo attached), and now the player is working flawlessly. Thank you very much for the advice!

However, how I am supposed to paint the magnets? I saw that they are indeed corroded. In order to access them, I need to remove the focus coil and the lens, and everything is held in place with 4 wires (two for each coil). I was not able to find a way to remove the focus coils. Do I need to de-solder the 4 wires, or is there another way to remove them?

Desolder is necessary to remove coils so that you can remove flakes and paint it.

Understood. Then I'll do my best to avoid damaging the coil. I really like how the SL-XP5 sounds. It has become my main CD player.
