Ok, so I'm getting closer with this D-555. Now it plays most discs just fine, without any issues at all.

But sometimes, usually after I have played one disc fully and want to play another (so the player is warmed up), it has major issues reading the TOC and/or playing Track 1.

In these cases, I noticed that when I tilt the player to the left or right slightly, even just 5 degrees or so, it immediately plays perfectly, but as soon as I go just one degree less tilt, it starts skipping instantly. This is reliably repeatable.

What might this indicate as the source of the problem?

You'll replace the spindle motor or lubricate it at least.

Ok, thank you! I asked in the other thread you mentioned for information on what lubricant to use, but I didn't see any response. Could you please let me know what lubricant to use and how it should be applied to the motor? Thank you very much!

Ok, thank you! I asked in the other thread you mentioned for information on what lubricant to use, b ...

You can simply add one drop of lubrication oil to the upper bearing of the spindle motor of D555. Any kind of car engine oil will work. If noise still exist, a tiny hole like 0.8mm will be drilled on the bottom of the spindle motor and add half drop of oil by pulling back and forth of the shaft of the spindle motor you'll see oil enters the new hole. Now there's no noise coming from the spindle motor.
