I'd like to consult you on an issue I am trying to repair, the player starts spinning but stops after 2 seconds and shuts down.
What I checked to troubleshoot so far:
All voltages are good.
Focus check - looks fine using service mode, there is a red beam coming from the lens.
Only problem I found is APC overcurrent:
80mA instead 55mA (as noted on the laser sticker KSS-110C).

At this point the service Manual suggest a laser replacement.
I'm not quite sure it's needed.
Is there another common issue that might be worth looking at?
Maybe something in the laser path or APC circuit could be out of place?

I appreciate your time and any reply with tips from your experience would be much helpful.
Thanks,
EK

Issue is no disc detected? If it's a laser issue, a laser diode replacement can be performed here. Pls refer to other threads in this forum regarding repair of KSS110.

No disc detection is the failure:
The carriage works and moves to the limit switch at the edge, the spindle spins the disc, but disc cannot be read, 00 appears on the display for 4 seconds and then unit shuts off.

Well, I don't know if it's a laser issue because I can see a red beam of light from the lens...
How can I tell for sure if the laser module is at fault or else it is something different?
I'd appreciate if you can point me to the relevant forum pages to determine which section of the player is bad when there is 'No CD Detection':  Laser or PCB components.
Thanks

I believe the issue is caused by a failure laser. If possible, you can replace the laser by a confirmed working one to ensure it's bad. Then you can try to replace it or repair it.
