I have a D-5 discman, it powers on but doesn't play. I checked and found that the voltage regulator IC was shorted, pin 3 has 9v instead of 5. I replaced the new S81250 and now have 5v at pin 3.
Continuing to check the DC-DC converter, all pins have enough power to play (-5.2, 5.2, GND, 5, 2.3, 9.9) and no voltage drop.
But when you press play, the disc rotates for a few seconds and then turns off? Check if the sled motor moves and emits red light, the Spin motor rotates.
Please help me, where do I have to check again to solve this problem? Thank you very much!

Hello, I have no experience with this model, but this unit is very old so replace all the capacitors if you haven't already. Also: open the lid, hold down the open switch and press play (without a disc) to see if the lens move up and down. Hope this helps, good luck!

The motherboard at left side area of the D50 (LCD side) has 4 wires soldered. 2 wires are lid switch; the other 2 are laser switch. You can short the laser switch and test again. The laser switch might be bad contact. Further, you should check whether the laser gear has broken tooth which prevent the movement of the laser.

I don't short-circuit the laser switch because I measure when the door is closed, the laser switch is good! Besides, when I press play, I hear laser screeching, but focus and tracking cannot be found. I will check the laser gear for broken teeth

I checked the gear and it was normal, the teeth were new and intact. It was quite interesting when I contacted the old owner, it was already playing half the song and stopped. Sometimes it reverse rotates when pressed play. So where do I continue testing?

Reverse spinning the disc means TB unbalancing. You can adjust the TB a little bit to see whether it's any better. Be sure to make the pot before adjusting.
