Just picked up a second D-88 discman and was able to get it going after cleaning and lubing the middle gear of the sled motor. However, it still has a couple of issues:
1. The LCD display is missing some lines. I've read online that it's due to the ribbon cable getting old and fragile. Does that mean the cable need to be replaced or is there another way to fix it?
2. The spindle motor will spin continuously at very high speed and counter-clock wise when first plugging in either the AC adapter or the battery (the LCD screen is blank at this moment). It will only stop by pressing the play/pause button, then the CD will slow down and turn the other direction (clock wise), and starts playing. This only happens when power is first applied. If you stop playing but with either the battery or the AC adapter plugged in, the player does not do that. My other working D-88 does not do that when power is first applied. Is there something wrong with circuitry on the board or is this also related to the ribbon cable?

Edit: I left it plugged in to an AC adapter for about 30 minutes and when I came back to it, the bottom of the Discman remained warm could this be an indication issues on the circuit board?
The spindle motor should not spin CCW. Pls check the input signal of the CLV from MPC1715. Ordinary, if 1.7V, no spin. Greater than 1.7V, CW, less than 1.7V, CCW. If 1.7V, spins CCW, replace the MPC1715 motor driver. If the CLV input is less than 1.7V, the MPC1715 is OK. Check the CLV generator CXA1272 and DSP CXD1125.
