Kaosun, I suggest that you move all such "tutorials" in one place, maybe under Repair Service. For those who do not know (yet) that you are the only Authority in Discman repair, seeing how you resurrect dead PCDPs will be a revelation.

Kaosun, how did you align the diffraction grating?
BTW, this is how the eyepattern of mx D50 looks like.
Lens cleaned, but the eyepattern is extremely blurry, it is a miracle that the D50 plays a CD.
Eyepattern is about 0.8V. What i have never observed in any eyepattern before
are the vertical lines or artifacts that almost slice the curves horizontally.

Looks almost like a scanline movie-effect, (like bad transmission through hyperspace)
First I though it was my scope but the noise is definately in the eyepattern´s signal.

All the best,
Herbert

It's weird! It looks like a kind of totem???

The vertical lines indicate the oxidized lens inside of the lens. You'll replace all the aging optical components, cleaning ordinary doesn't work to them.

Hello Kaosun, thanks for the reply!
But are you sure that the optical
layer is oxidized? All other parts show
no sign of long term moisture.
To clean the underside of the upper
lens: Can the whole assembly with
coils and magnets be removed without
noting any alignment? I assume as the
focusing lens moves, horizontal and vertical
alignment is not crucial but maybe tilt
is crucial.
Another idea: Maybe some ripple voltage
is interfering? Or the ground connection
is crucial? I did use the chassis close to the
to the test point for grounding the probe.
Normally, where to connect to ground
is not crucial while measuring RF.
All the best, Herbert

Aging optical components are quite common on this laser. From other KSS110 threads here, you can see the comparison of aging component with working one. Color changed from purple to yellow.
