Hi all. Im Albert. Electronic technician. I've fix maaaany Sony PCD players, D-11, D32, D20...but the D-66 and D-t66, are getting me crazy.
I have 5 of them. Two have the laser death, but the other three, SEEMS to have the pickup yet operative and in order.
I have do with them, the same i do with others. New condensators, clean of pcb and lens, adjust the pots in the way specified in the service manual with the Scope, and, after that. The three d-66 works perfect one or two hours, but if you power off and try to listen one CD the next day, no focus and no disc.
I dont know what to do. I just think the pickups are bad. (All are used), but,  when they works, I get 1V of RF, and a very clean diamont shape in scope.
Mr. Kaosun, would you be so kind to give some advice? How we can test a pickup and be REALLY SURE that its OK?
Thanks and all the best from Spain.

Hi, when it doesn't work check Q407 for 3.7V. Maybe you have a similar problem to mine. If not then it's still probably a problem with a corroded connection somewhere on the via or trace. I just updated my thread.

Replace all SMT caps, clean all PCB area, better using an ultrasonic cleaner. Check each via around each leaking caps, if corroded, repair all broken vias.
Install new SMT caps, clean soldering flux. Lubricate all pots. Usually the laser SF89 seldom to be broken, the spindle motor should be replaced, at least lubricate the bearing(s). The lower bearing will be lubricated by drilling a tiny hole at the bottom of the motor. Once reading RF is calibrated, it should be stable.
